The Lord is Good to All

Quietly, our family had a trying week.  A week that was filled with sickness, panicked situations,  worry for our neice’s operation, and a stressed-out Mom that did not get very much sleep.  When a baby is waking almost every hour because of teething, the whole family suffers.  But the Lord provided many tender mercies this week that touched me very deeply and brought hope to my heart and comfort for our family. I then remembered a talk, that when I heard it, I knew would become a very dear friend.  The message was so inspiring and memorable to me.  Here are just a couple of quotes from that amazing sermon  The Tender Mercies of the Lord  from Elder David A. Bednar:
The Lord’s tender mercies are the very personal and individualized blessings, strength, protection, assurances, guidance, loving-kindnesses, consolation, support, and spiritual gifts which we receive from and because of and through the Lord Jesus Christ.

We should not underestimate or overlook the power of the Lord’s tender mercies. The simpleness, the sweetness, and the constancy of the tender mercies of the Lord will do much to fortify and protect us in the troubled times in which we do now and will yet live. When words cannot provide the solace we need or express the joy we feel, when it is simply futile to attempt to explain that which is unexplainable, when logic and reason cannot yield adequate understanding about the injustices and inequities of life, when mortal experience and evaluation are insufficient to produce a desired outcome, and when it seems that perhaps we are so totally alone, truly we are blessed by the tender mercies of the Lord and made mighty even unto the power of deliverance.

As we have bright, healthy daffodil days, or long, sickly, stressful weeks, we can be given individualized comfort and support through the big or small tender mercies the Lord sends our way.  The Lord will always deliver us and help make us “mighty” to endure our sleepless nights.

The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. (Psalms 145:9)

  1. Jana, this talk was given in Conference about 6 months before my Mom died. It was so timely and relevant to her! She always found the tender mercies from God throughout her illness. I sent Nelson off on his mission with the mandate from me (and his Grandma Snow) to look for the Lord's tender mercies while he's in California.
