iFamily Leadership Academy
I am a homeschooling mama of 17 years. Along with being at home with my children, our family also belongs to a HS community called iFamily Leadership Academy. In the summer of 2010, a good friend and I were talking about the great need and desire we had to create a HS group that could bless the many families in our communities. My friend enthusiastically commented that I should start such a group. At first, I resisted the idea of starting something because simply it was more than I wanted to do. Plus, I had been in other HS Co-op’s before that worked for a while but disintegrated after a couple of years. I did not want to be apart of something like that again. Even though I dished out excuse after excuse, the strong and persistent feeling that I needed to do something would not go away. Long story short: iFamily was born that next fall, September 1, 2010.
It is true that I was the “torch bearer” the first year of iFamily, but soon after we started, I realized I could not do the organization justice all by myself. As the first year ended with surprising success, I was so grateful for the many other women who stepped up to the plate and helped create a new and improved iFamily Leadership Academy. Now, we have a board and by-laws to govern our organization, a beautifully amazing and functional website, and different social groups and activities for our families to enjoy outside of our Wednesday classes. As of this year, 2016, there are over 90 families attending iFamily every Wednesday with classes for everyone…small children, teenage scholars, and even Mom’s. Wow, as I think about it, I am grateful that I acted on the nudge from my friend and the prompting to DO something. That spark is becoming a flame!
