A Real Superman
I don’t know how to say this…
but I do believe that I am Mrs Superman.
Or, let me say it this way—I am married to a real Superman.
No, not that Superman with the blue tights and red Fruit of the Looms.
This handsome Superman, swinging little JuBean in white shirt and tie.
When EB and I started our family twenty two years ago and had three little boys boom-boom-boom, there was a framed photo I gave to him as a Father’s Day gift that perfectly depicted him as a father to our boys.
Our little boys were always wearing make shift pillowcase capes or cheap halloween costumes and imagining they were super heroes on a daily basis. They interchanged personas every couple of hours.
It wasn’t uncommon to find Batman jumping off couches in the morning, then feed the black Power Ranger at lunch time, have Spiderman climb the walls all afternoon, and then end our day by tucking Superman into bed.
So this painting of Liz Lemon Swindle, “Even Superman Needs a Dad”, was the perfect gift for EB on Father’s Day 15 or so years ago.
That is just EB,
affectionate and loving…
kind of Dad.
As those three boys have grown up to be men now, and five more children have been added to the family,
you can still find EB acting as a jungle gym on the living room floor with the little ones,
or playing a game of two-on-two basketball with the big boys.
(He doesn’t dare to wrestle those three alone anymore!)
With all of the many “capes” you wear throughout your day and week trying to save the universe,
thank you for wearing your “Dad” cape for us and saving our small little world.
In this day and age, we need more Real Supermen like you!
Happy Father’s Day, EB!
